Persistance Pays Off
December 19, 2009
Two months ago I was sitting behind a desk at Columbia River Bank in The Dalles, Oregon. Life for me seemed to revolve around going to the gym, church activities and sitting behind that large oak desk with my head buried in a credit file. I’m thankful for my time at the bank and grateful for the friends I made there however the suit and tie lifestyle has never been me and I’m thankful to have finally had the opportunity to move on. First Sessions
December 3, 2009
For all of my life I’ve been obsessed with jumping. I recall family videos in which I pinned my little LT50 with all that it had and railed a fallen tree as a means of getting air born. The grin on my face said it all and it didn’t matter that I had no suspension or that I was wearing sweatpants and rubber booties.
Well I’m a little older now and I jump a little higher but the thrill is still the same. I never dreamed I would have the opportunity to hit a real ramp but through the help and support of people like Justin Homan, Wes Miller and BC Vaught I’ve spent the last eight months doing just that.
Here are a few photos of the latest ramping sessions. Please excuse the blur effect as dust has been a major issue.
Back in the Saddle
November 25, 2009
So I’ve taken a little siesta but now I’m back and ready to bring you the ATV Lifestyle like never before. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure anyone new I was gone. I don’t really know how many people read this blog and judging by the number of comments I receive, I’m guessing only a handful of people manage to stumble across my articles. No matter, I’m going to try my hand at this again in hopes of doing a much better job this time around.

WORCS ROUND 5 Toutle Washington
June 9, 2009
Lucky for me, round five of the World Offroad Championship Series was held at Riverdale Raceway, not too far from my home. I was able to make the trek up for the day to enjoy the racing action and snap a few photos of the riders dodging trees, hopping gullies and proving why they are among the toughest in the world.
The WORCS series is like no other racing series in the country. Riders experience everything from motocross, to tight woods action, to wide open desert and even challenging water features. Shoot, this event even through supermoto into the mix as the track included a high speed stretch of asphalt. WORCS racing is definitely not for the faint of heart (nor for the weak body) but for those who dare to attempt it, it is an experience that falls 2nd to none.
Due to the nature of this type of racing it makes it somewhat of a challenge to keep track of rider positions throughout the course of the two hour long pro event. I did my best to keep track of the top few positions and focus on getting some photos of the racing action.
Yamaha factory pro Dustin Nelson grabbed the holeshot and held onto first position for most of the race. Beau Baron who has been gaining steadily in the points battle fell inline behind Nelson with Frenchman Jeremie Warina not far behind. Baron managed to squeeze by Nelson about midway through the race and hold on for the win however the days most impressive feat may have come from Jarrod McClure. Jarrod raced the John Penton GNCC in Millfield Ohio the day before the WORCS race, hopped aboard a plane bound for the west coast and managed a third place finish at this event.
Injuries seem to be plaguing some of the biggest names at the WORCS races as of late. Series points leader Josh Fredrick suffered a broken leg while racing an ITP quadcross event just a few weeks ago and was unable to race the Toutle round. At this event alone both Mike Cafro and Dustin Nelson suffered painful get offs with Cafro sustaining a broken wrist and Nelson pinning himself against a tree. As the series goes into the summer break, hopefully these riders are quick on the mend and able to rejoin the racing action August 16th in Olympia Washington.
As for the final standings Beau Baron took the checkers as well as jumped to first place in the series points standings. Jeremie Warina or Frenchy as most people called him took second and Jarrod McClure rounded out the Pro class podium in third.
- Jarrod McClure takes a breather on the starting line before the gate drops. I wonder if he’s feeling jet lagged?
- Nelson out front with the rest of the Pro class hot on his grab bar
- Doug Eichner continues to impress as he remains in the top five point standings against riders half his age.
- Tim Shelman almost held a wheelie the entire length of the drag strip section of the track
- Offroad Racing in the beautiful Pacific Northwest
- This little ditch crossing was an interesting obstacle and it provided a relatively easy passing lane on the mostly one lane track
- The asphalt drag strip section gave riders a momentary break from the tight trees and deep ruts
- Two hours of this…
- ….Leads to this. Mike Kelley wins the iron man award in my book for finishing the race with the knarliest blister I’ve ever seen
- Allie Shelman managed to oust the boys in the 12-15 Mod Sport class
- The Pro-am Podium: Keith Johnson, David Haagsma and Dillon Zimmerman (L-R)
- The Pro class Podium: Jarrod McClure, Beau Baron and Jeremie “Frenchy” Warina (L-R)
Start Your Engines!
May 11, 2009
It seems like spring has come later than usual this year and if you’re anything like me you’ve put off prepping your machine for the coming riding season. Maybe its just the weather where I’m from but I was begining to doubt that spring would ever arrive. Alas, it is finally here and I’m gearing up for some exciting riding in the weeks to come.
If you were on the ball last winter and included a fuel system stabilizer in your machines fuel tank my hat’s off to you. Many of us I feel just put our machines in the shop, hoping for one last hoorah before the snow flies, only to realize weeks (or months) later that we never got that extra ride and never properly put our machine away for the season. Before you know it time gets away from you and spring is here and you’ve had gas siting in your machines tank and fuel system for four months. (I think I have started my old trusty LT 250R once since last labor day.)
The makers of the same fine stabilizer product you would or should’ve used when putting your ATV away for winter now offer a product to help your machine run smoothly when taking it out of storage. Start! Your Engines is a fuel sytem revitaliser designed to keep your carburator clean and free of buildup that might have developed during those idle months. “For quick, reliable starts of power equipment right out of storage and during season.” Start! Your Engines removes water and dries out the entire fuel system ensuring clean, correct opperation of your ATV each and every time you ride.
Even if you used a stabilizer when you parked your ATV adding Start! Your Engines to your ATV will ensure the fuel system stays clean and free of gum and varnish. One 4 oz can treats up to a gallon of fuel so figure out what the capacity of your specific tank is and keep your ATV running at peak performance all year long.
