Two wheels or four, the world of freestyle motocross has come a long way from the days of Jeremy McGrath and the nac nac. I realize this is an ATVBlog, but then again my area of expertise as they call it is “lifestyle” so I figure that encompasses all aspects of the motorsport world. This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit the home of Justin Homan a freestyle MX rider from central Oregon. Depending on which day of the week you catch him, you’d probably never place this guy as one of the founding fathers of freestyle motocross.
At first appearance you probably wouldn’t picture this guy hucking backfilps ramp to ramp just for fun. Under the suit and tie, the only tattoos on his skin are scars from the more than 10 years he’s been riding freestyle motocross. As the general manager of a title company, husband, and father of two, there is a lot more to this X-Games medalist than meets the eye.

Jersey's from other FMX giants like Deegan, Twitch, Potter and Metzger grace the walls of Homan's shop
I felt like I was on an episode of MTV cribs. Beautiful house, garage full of bikes, walls papered with autographed paraphernalia from his world travels with other FMX giants. His own personal supercross track and FMX facility complete with ramps and a foam pit. Oh yeah…this guy’s living the dream.
Justin is one of the original members of the Metal Mulisha, the most medaled team of freestyle motocross competitors in the world. With a brief hiatus from the Mulisha, Justin graduated from the University of Washington school of business. After graduation he returned to his love of freestyle motocross only this time with a twist.
If you talk to Justin you’ll quickly learn that for him, freestyle is a passion. It’s a lifestyle, not a job. He rides because its what he loves to do, not what pays the bills. Holding down a fulltime job has enabled him to keep freestyle as something he does for fun. “If I break my wrist, I go back to work.” Says Homan. “I’m not in danger of being dropped by sponsors and having nothing else to fall back on.” This no pressure perspective enables Justin to perform for the sheer enjoyment of it, and man can he put on a show!
From March-October, Justin is on the road with his family and his team of riders putting on freestyle demos throughout the northwest and California. “It’s a business” says homan, “but we ride because its what we love to do.” The list of events he has participated in ranges from the X-Games and Gravity Games to fundraiser’s for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Justin loves what he does and meeting people along the way that share in his passion is all a part of the thrill.

All i can say is that’s sick!
Yep was a pretty fun time. Check out Justin’s site for more info on his team. He was riding at Deagan’s house a couple weeks ago with Twitch and kargola and a bunch of the boys.
The pics are great. Whom ever took the riding shots, had some photography skills!
Thanks! You can see a BUNCH more photos from that afternoon shoot on my website. http://www.localheroesnw.com
